Privacy Policy for Wakefield Bins
// Last Updated: 29th December 20251. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how the "Wakefield Bins" app ("we", "our", or "the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy applies to your use of the App on iOS and Android devices.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. What Data We Collect
We believe in data minimization. We only collect and process data that is strictly necessary for the App to function.
- Location Data (Address & Postcode): You voluntarily enter your address and postcode into the App to find your bin collection schedule.
- Calendar Data: If you choose to use the "Add to Calendar" feature, the App requires permission to access your device’s calendar to save reminder events.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Address/Postcode: This data is used solely to query the public Wakefield Council website to retrieve your bin collection dates.
- Calendar Access: This permission is used exclusively to write (save) bin collection reminders to your personal calendar application. We do not read, view, or share your existing calendar events.
4. Where Your Data is Stored
We do not store your data on external servers.
- Local Storage: Your address and recent search history are stored locally on your own device using your phone's internal memory (
SharedPreferences). - No Cloud Sync: We (the developer) do not have access to your address, postcode, or calendar entries. They never leave your phone, except as described in Section 6.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information to others.
- Wakefield Council: When you perform a search, your postcode is sent directly from your device to the Wakefield Council’s public website (
www.wakefield.gov.uk) via an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to fetch the schedule. This is necessary to provide the service. - No Analytics: The App does not currently use third-party analytics services (like Google Analytics) to track your behavior.
